At least 86 people were killed and hundreds more were injured after a 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck the northwestern Chinese province of Qinghai on Wednesday. The quake struck just after 6 p.m. local time at a shallow depth, the U.S. Geological Survey said. Chinese officials said the death toll had risen to 86, with nearly 600 people injured. Emergency crews were sent in to search for survivors and to assess the damage. The Chinese government also dispatched helicopters to the region to help with rescue efforts.
