The 2020 campaign cycle has seen unprecedented levels of dark money donations to Democratic party committees. According to the Center for Responsible Politics, federal Democratic party committees such as the Democratic National Committee, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee have hauled in $277 million in dark money so far this cycle. This nearly doubles the $143 million in dark money donations raised by Democrats during the 2018 cycle and dwarfs the $169 million these committees raised in 2016. Donors to these committees are often only required to disclose limited information, allowing the identity of those behind these huge donations to remain largely a mystery.
