Tesla CFO Zach Kirkhorn announced on Monday that he is stepping down from his role at the carmaker, effective June 26. Kirkhorn had been with the company for nearly 11 years and has served as CFO since 2019. He will remain at Tesla as an advisor to the board and CEO Elon Musk.
Kirkhorn stated that his decision was based on his desire to “take some time with [his] family, recharge and explore other professional opportunities”. He thanked Musk and other Tesla leaders for the trust they placed in him during his time as CFO and expressed excitement for the future of the company.
Kirkhorn’s departure comes at a time of rapid growth and innovation for Tesla, which recently announced plans to release its first all-electric pickup truck and expand to Europe and Asia-Pacific. Musk has yet to announce a replacement for Kirkhorn, but current Tesla COO and former FCA executive Jeff Jones is considered a likely candidate.
